Arenas, Wizards travel to City of Brotherly Love

02.14.2007

(Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers will resume their seven-game homestand when they welcome the Washington Wizards this evening to the Wachovia Center.

The 76ers have lost two in a row and fell to 2-3 on the homestand after Sunday’s 106-89 setback to the Dallas Mavericks. Andre Iguodala scored 21 points and had nine boards for the Sixers, who fell to 9-14 at home this season. Kyle Korver donated 18 points, Andre Miller had 16 and Willie Green ended with 10 points in a losing cause.

Philadelphia will close out the homestand after the All-Star break on February 21 versus the Atlantic Division-rival New York Knicks. The Sixers are just ahead of Boston in the bottom of the standings.

The Wizards, meanwhile, have lost two straight and four of their last five games, including Sunday’s 94-73 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Gilbert Arenas made just 3-of-15 from the field and missed all eight of his three-pointers, finishing with nine points, for Washington, which will work on its 9-14 road mark on the season in the City of Brotherly Love.

DeShawn Stevenson led the team with 12 points, while Caron Butler added 10 points for the Southeast Division-leading Wizards.

Wednesday’s showdown between Washington and Philly is the second of three meetings during the regular season. The Wizards won the first encounter by a 113-98 score on December 8 at the Wachovia Center.

Washington, which will host the 76ers on March 28, is 6-11 over the previous 17 meetings with Philadelphia.

The Wizards have lost three of four and seven of their last nine games at the Wachovia Center.
