NCAA Game Summary - George Mason at Maryland

College Park, MD (Basketball News) - Nik Caner-Medley scored a game-high 23 points in leading the Maryland Terrapins to 79-64 victory over the George Mason Patriots in non-conference action from the Comcast Center.

Caner-Medley finished the game 10-of-16 from the field with seven rebounds. Jamar Smith also had a solid game for the Terrapins (2-0) with a double-double that consisted of a career-high 19 points and 13 rebounds. John Gilchrist added 11 points and four assists coming off the bench.

Jai Lewis paced the Patriots (1-1) in defeat with 17 points and eight rebounds. Mark Davis added 15 points, while Terry Reynolds chipped in 10 points, despite turning the ball over six times. The loss denied head coach Jim Larranaga his 300th career victory.

Maryland shot a solid 50.0 percent from the field in the first half, opening up a three-point advantage at the break.

In the second stanza, the Terrapins used a 20-9 run to pull away for a 15- point victory.

Maryland outrebounded George Mason 49-36, including 19-12 on the offensive glass.

The Terrapins shot a respectable 47.4 percent from the floor, while holding the Patriots to just 38.5 percent of their total field goal attempts.
