Jamaica, NY (Basketball News) - Robert Hite netted a game-high 18 points while leading the Miami Hurricanes to a 70-64 victory over the St. John’s Red Storm in a Big East battle.
Guillermo Diaz tallied 15 points and grabbed six boards for Miami (11-5, 1-1 Big East), which snapped a two-game losing skid. Darius Rice contributed 14 points and also collected six rebounds in the victory.
Grady Reynolds scored 16 points for St. John’s (4-9, 0-3), which has a three- game losing streak. Elijah Ingram also scored 16 points for the Red Storm, while Daryll Hill chipped in 14 points and dished out six assists.
Despite shooting just 40 percent from the floor in the first half while allowing the Red Storm to connect on 53.6 percent of its shots, the Hurricanes went into the break with a slim 34-33 lead.
Miami used a 10-2 run early in the second stanza en route to the six-point victory.
The Hurricanes committed only 12 turnovers on the night and forced the Red Storm into 19 miscues.
