Miami, FL (Basketball News) - Shaquille O’Neal scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Miami Heat to a 111-92 win over the Atlanta Hawks at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Dwyane Wade returned from a two-game absence due to a back injury and scored 25 points and added seven assists, as the Heat won for just the second time in five outings.
"We went out a got it done," said O’Neal. "We (O’Neal and Wade) were looking for each other. When I’m not going, he’s going and when he’s not going, I’m going. It’s a good combination to have."
Antoine Walker had 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Hawks, who have dropped two straight and nine of their last 11. Jason Collier added 17 points for Atlanta, which has lost seven straight and 11 of 12 on the road.
Atlanta stayed with Miami until late in the third quarter when the Heat began to pull away. After Walker drew the Hawks within 71-67 on a pair of free throws with just over three minutes remaining, the Heat went on an 18-3 run that bridged the third and fourth quarters.
Eddie Jones started the run with a pair of free throws and ended the burst one minute into the final quarter with a three-pointer for an 89-70 advantage. Keyon Dooling, whose free throw at the end of the third gave the Heat an 83-70 cushion heading into the final 12 minutes, had six points during the run.
Miami continued to hold the double-digit lead the rest of the way and cruised to its seventh straight home win over the Hawks.
Jones ended with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Heat, who shot 52 percent from the field.
Josh Smith and Al Harrington each had 13 points for Atlanta, which led 14-13 midway through the first quarter, but after a Damon Jones three never had a lead again.
Miami held a slim 31-29 edge through one quarter and a 54-49 lead at halftime.
Atlanta shot 43 percent for the game, but went only 2-of-14 from three and was outscored 50-38 in the paint.
"We did not accept the challenge defensively tonight," said Atlanta’s Tyronn Lue. "We need to a better job of helping each other defensively. We gave up way too many easy lay ups."
Miami is 3-0 this season against the Hawks, improving to 9-0 versus the Southeast Division.
