San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Manu Ginobili and Brent Barry picked up the slack in Tim Duncan’s absence, scoring 23 points apiece to lead San Antonio to a 111-95 victory over Atlanta at the SBC Center.
Tony Parker added 22 points for the Spurs, who snapped a three-game losing streak to win for the fourth time in seven games. They pulled within one-half game of Phoenix for the Western Conference lead, this after the Suns lost at Miami on Friday night.
San Antonio improved to 2-4 this season without Duncan, who has missed the last three games with a severely sprained right ankle.
Tony Delk scored 24 points in 26 minutes off the bench to lead the Hawks, who have lost seven straight and 27 of their last 30 games. Al Harrington added 20 points in defeat.
San Antonio led from the first basket and shot 53 percent in the first half for a commanding 59-39 lead at the break.
The Spurs grabbed a double-digit lead when Barry’s layup made it 25-15 late in the first quarter, and they never let Atlanta within single digits before intermission.
Parker scored 11 of his 22 points in the first half, while Bruce Bowen and Robert Horry added 10 apiece.
The Hawks shot just 34 percent in the half and 45 percent for the game. They trailed 86-73 at the end of the third quarter, but opened the fourth with six straight points to pull within seven.
Boris Diaw’s layup capped the burst and made it 86-79, but a Barry jumper and two Ginobili free throws gave the Spurs an 11-point lead.
Atlanta would only be as close as nine points after that. The Spurs, who shot 52 percent for the game, used a 13-5 run down the stretch to put the game away.
