Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Allen Iverson poured in 43 points and added seven assists, as the Philadelphia 76ers held on to beat the Charlotte Bobcats, 119-115, at the Wachovia Center.
Kyle Korver went 5-of-6 from behind the arc and matched a career-high with 26 points for the Sixers, who snapped a four-game slide.
Andre Iguodala added 20 points, six steals and four assists to help Philadelphia go up by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats, though, nearly erased that lead completely.
Kareem Rush and Emeka Okafor each chipped in 15 points for Charlotte, which has dropped six straight.
Melvin Ely contributed 13 points and seven boards in the loss.
The Sixers lead extended all the way to 20 points after three quarters of play. Korver and Iguodala each nailed three-pointers from the corner late in the third. Korver then scored the final points of the stanza on a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left that made it 97-77.
Charlotte, however, made a big push late to make the game interesting. They put together a 9-0 run in the latter stages of the fourth, capped by a Jumaine Jones three with 5:41 remaining, that made it 103-93.
Iverson answered each Charlotte advance in the ensuing stretch to maintain a double-digit lead, and John Salmons put Philadelphia back up by 15 with a three-ball with under four minutes to play.
Charlotte, though, whittled the lead down to four. Sean May sank a mid-range jumper with 1:47 remaining to cut the lead to six. Then, following a defensive stop, Charlotte made it 117-113 on a Jones layup.
Jones missed a three-pointer out of a timeout with 8.6 seconds remaining, however, to effectively end the game.
Philadelphia played front-runner for nearly the entire contest.
Korver went 4-for-6 from the field in the first quarter with three three- pointers to put up 11 points and guide the Sixers to a 34-30 advantage.
Philadelphia upped its lead in the second quarter. Late in the frame, Iverson nailed a jumper from the key and then followed with a perfect alley-oop feed to Iguodala the next time down the floor to put the Sixers up by 11.
Iguodala then banked in a running three-pointer at the buzzer to give Philadelphia a 62-48 halftime lead.
Iverson had 17 at the break, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line.
