Minneapolis, MN (Basketball News) - Kevin Garnett poured in 28 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and handed out nine assists, as Minnesota defeated Chicago, 99-93, at the Target Center.
Wally Szczerbiak added 25 points and nine boards while Trenton Hassell scored 14 points for the Timberwolves, who put an end to a three-game losing streak.
Andres Nocioni had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Ben Gordon netted 19 points while Kirk Hinrich posted 17 points, a career-high 17 assists and eight boards in the loss.
Minnesota led 66-63 after 36 minutes, but opened up a seven-point cushion on Marko Jaric’s basket with around eight minutes left in the game. The margin then grew to 88-79 on Szczerbiak’s bucket later in the frame, but Chicago rallied late.
Nocioni’s three-pointer with just under two minutes remaining trimmed the gap to 93-89, and following Garnett’s miss, Chicago drew even closer when Mike Sweetney’s hoop made it a two-point contest with 30 seconds left.
Szczerbiak then hit a pair from the line before Chris Duhon answered with two free throws with 9.9 seconds remaining to again pull the Bulls within two. Garnett was then fouled instantly and the perennial All-Star made both shots to widen the gap to 97-93 and seal the win.
The Timberwolves led 28-26 after one period and held a 43-42 edge at halftime.
