NBA Game Summary - Cleveland at Philadelphia

11.20.2005

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - LeBron James recorded a triple-double with 36 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, to pace Cleveland to its seventh consecutive win, 123-120, over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center.

James hit the go-ahead layup with just over a minute left and added another critical layup for the Cavaliers, who also got a season-high 37 points from former Sixer Larry Hughes.

Drew Gooden totaled 16 points and 13 rebounds for Cleveland, which rallied from a 16-point deficit in the third quarter to win against the Sixers for just the fourth time in the last 24 meetings.

"That’s one of our mottos," James said of the comeback. "We kept telling ourselves the whole game to win the ball game. It doesn’t matter how many points we were down, we just kept saying win the ballgame, by any means necessary. Guys hit big shots and we were able to get back in it to eventually take the lead."

Allen Iverson had 37 points and 12 assists, but missed a potential tying three-pointer at the buzzer for the Sixers, who have lost back-to-back contests after falling at Miami Friday night.

Chris Webber finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Andre Iguodala had 17 points and eight assists, but couldn’t contain James in the closing minutes of the game.

Iguodala’s layup gave the Sixers a 116-114 lead with 1:48 remaining, but James then drove by the Sixers forward and hit a layup with 1:02 left. James was fouled on the play by Iguodala and converted the free throw to give Cleveland the lead.

Iverson then missed a jumper and James extended Cleveland’s lead to 119-116 with 20.9 seconds left, again backing up Iguodala and scoring with another layup.

"I was in attack mode," James said. "I had to some way; somehow get our team to feel as if we can win this ballgame so they knew it wasn’t over. I was able to get myself some good looks along with my teammates. This is one of the biggest wins I have had in my three years here."

Damon Jones converted four free throws down the stretch, the last of which gave the Cavs a 123-120 lead with 5.5 seconds left. Iverson got off his three- point attempt over Hughes, but the ball caromed off the front of the rim and over the backboard as time expired.

"Obviously the game came down to defending the screen and roll," Sixers head coach Maurice Cheeks said. "I thought early on in the game they were missing some shots, late in the game they got to the middle of our defense once again like in Miami. They got to the middle of our defense for lay-ups or kicking out for shots and as the game unfolded, once again it got to not defending the pick and roll."

Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 12 points and Jones scored 10 for the Cavs, who made 29-of-38 free throws.

Kyle Korver had 13 points and Salmons scored 10 for the Sixers, who lost despite shooting 52.7 percent from the field and converting 20-of-22 foul shots.

The Sixers led 66-57 at the half and extended to a 90-74 cushion with 3:24 left in the third on a three-point play by Iverson. The Cavaliers were within 94-85 entering the fourth and finally went in front at 112-111 on a Donyell Marshall basket with 3:36 left.

The Cavs won for just the second time in their last 14 trips to Philadelphia...This was James’ fifth career triple-double...Webber has 399 career double-doubles...Hughes was 5-of-6 from three-point range.
