NBA Game Summary - Miami at Orlando

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - Dwyane Wade had 28 points on 11-of-15 shooting and added 11 assists, as the Miami Heat completed a sweep of a home-and-home series with a 112-103 victory over the Orlando Magic at TD Waterhouse Centre.

The Heat, who played without the services of star center Shaquille O’Neal for a second straight game, also got 24 points from Eddie Jones and 22 from Damon Jones. O’Neal is sidelined by a left knee sprain. Miami ended a two-game road skid.

Grant Hill had a game-high 34 points for the Magic, losers of three straight games. Steve Francis added 22 points and seven assists, but missed 11 of his 16 shot attempts.

The Heat were just 3-of-12 from behind the arc in Saturday’s three-point win over the Magic, but shot a blistering 11-of-22 from long range in this game.

Two free throws by Wade a minute into the second half put the Heat up by 19, at 57-38. But the Magic made seven straight shots to pull within 68-60 with 3 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. Miami eventually took a 77-68 lead into the final 12 minutes.

Eddie Jones scored 12 straight Heat points during one stretch of the fourth quarter, as the Heat maintained their lead. Miami was 12-of-19 from the field in the fourth quarter.

A three-point play by Hedo Turkoglu made it a 81-75 game early in the fourth, and got the crowd into it again. But Eddie Jones answered with a three-pointer on the other end to restore the nine-point cushion.

Francis converted a three-point play to pull Orlando within 84-81 with nine minutes left. And a Turkoglu field goal just under the three minute mark of the fourth quarter allowed the Magic to creep within 99-97. But Damon Jones answered with a three-pointer to spark a 9-3 run that put the game away.

The Heat are 3-0 against the Magic this season. Eddie Jones had 16 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter.

The Heat have won eight of their last 12 in Orlando.

The Magic jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the opening 4 1/2 minutes of the game. But a Damon Jones three-pointer with two minutes left in the first quarter punctuated a 22-8 Miami run that put the Heat up 26-20. Miami held a 26-24 lead after the first quarter, and blew it open in the second.

Turkoglu hit two free throws at 10:50 of the second quarter to make it a 30-28 game in favor of the Heat. Miami then turned it up a notch defensively. The Heat outscored the Magic 24-10 the rest of quarter to take a 54-38 lead into the break. Wade had nine points and six assists, while Jones had nine of his own.

Orlando was paced in the first half by Hill with nine and Jameer Nelson with eight. Nelson, the Magic’s rookie point guard, had three of Orlando’s 11 first-half miscues.

Miami improved to 2-1 since O’Neal suffered a sprained left knee...The Magic have tallied a 19-8 mark at home this season...Orlando began a three-game homestand tonight...Miami has won all three meetings this season and 10 of 14 overall in this series.
