NBA Game Summary - Minnesota at Seattle

03.11.2006

Seattle, WA (Basketball News) - Ray Allen had a game-high 38 points and dished out five assists to lead the Seattle SuperSonics to a 107-96 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Key Arena.

Rashard Lewis had 15 points and eight rebounds, Earl Watson had 12 points and 10 assists and Chris Wilcox added 11 points in the win for the SuperSonics, who have won two of their last three games.

Mark Blount had 23 points and eight rebounds and Kevin Garnett added 21 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for the Timberwolves, who have dropped their last three games.

Minnesota had a slim 74-72 advantage going into the fourth quarter and never trailed for the first half of the final 12 minutes.

However, with the score 88-84 in favor of Minnesota, Allen hit a free throw to complete a three-point play and Watson drained a trey from the left side to give the Sonics a 90-88 lead with 5:33 to play.

The game remained close for the next minute and Marcus Banks made it a 95-94 game after connecting on two free throws with 4:06 to play.

But, Seattle scored the next nine points and Wilcox’s alley-oop slam from Watson gave his squad a 104-94 lead with 2:06 remaining.

The lead proved insurmountable for the Timberwolves, who did not manage to get a basket from the floor for the remainder of the game.

It was a tight first quarter, but the Timberwolves had a 26-18 lead when Banks drove to the basket and put in a layup with 1:38 left. The Sonics, though, scored the last four points of the quarter to close the game to 26-22.

Seattle took the lead briefly in the second, but with the score tied at 33, Minnesota scored eight straight points capped by Ricky Davis’ jump shot to make it a 41-33 game with 5:37 left until halftime.

The Timberwolves led 55-48 at the break.

Minnesota took its largest lead of the game when Davis nailed a jumper after a sharp feed from Garnett to make the score 63-54 a little over four minutes into the third quarter.

However, Seattle went on a 12-2 run and tied the game up at 65-65 on a driving layup by Lewis with 3:57 left in the third.

The Sonics briefly took the lead after a Watson layup with 28 second left, but Rashad McCants drained a three-pointer to close out the third and give the Timberwolves a 74-72 lead going into the final 12 minutes.
