Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Michael Redd scored a game-high 32 points to help the Milwaukee Bucks end an eight-game losing streak with a 106-102 win over the New York Knicks at the Bradley Center.
Desmond Mason added 20 points for the Bucks, who last won on March 18 against the Washington Wizards. Maurice Williams had 18 points, as Milwaukee also ended a three-game slide at home and finished a four-game homestand 1-3.
"It’s been awhile, but it’s a good feeling, I know that much," said head coach Terry Porter of ending the losing streak.
Tim Thomas had 23 points for the Knicks, who have dropped six in a row. Maurice Taylor had 18 points for New York, which has dropped nine of its last 12 overall.
After a close first half that saw the two teams go into the locker room tied at 54-54, the Bucks opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run to take the lead for good.
Later, Milwaukee ended the quarter with an 82-73 lead courtesy of a Marcus Fizer bucket.
The club continued to extend its cushion in the fourth. Ahead 88-79, Milwaukee scored seven of the next 10 points to extend to a 95-82 advantage with 3:25 remaining. Redd scored four of the seven points with a Fizer free throw capping the surge.
New York made it interesting down the stretch, but couldn’t get any closer than 101-99. Jamal Crawford’s three-pointer with 17 ticks remaining got the Knicks within two points. However, four straight free throws by Williams iced the victory for the Bucks.
Fizer had 14 points off the bench for Milwaukee, which leads the season series two game to one.
Stephon Marbury was held to only 15 points and had nine assists for the Knicks, who shot 42 percent for the game. Crawford had just 11 points, going 3-of-17 from the floor.
"If some of play hard and some of us don’t, we are not going to get it done down the stretch," said Taylor of his team’s effort.
Milwaukee shot 55 percent for the game.
