NBA Game Summary - New York at New Jersey

East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - Jason Kidd recorded his league-leading seventh triple-double of the season as the New Jersey Nets continued their late surge toward the playoffs with a 110-98 victory over New York at Continental Airlines Arena.

Kidd scored 28 points, dished out 12 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds for New Jersey, which sits in ninth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race, one game behind the Philadelphia 76ers, who were idle Thursday.

With the 12 assists, Kidd passed Lenny Wilkens’ career mark of 7,211 assists to move into ninth place on the NBA’s all-time list. Kidd has now totaled 7,221 assists and 66 triple-doubles in his 10-year career.

He also had a few choice words for New York.

"(Playing the Knicks) doesn’t excite me anymore," Kidd said. "Why? Just another bad team, that’s why. I don’t get excited for bad teams.

"We’ve owned those guys for a while and it showed again tonight that we have their number."

Vince Carter contributed a game-high 32 points, while Nenad Krstic netted 11 points to go along with 10 boards for the Nets, who have won 10 of their last 13 games.

Leading the last-place Knicks, who have dropped eight consecutive contests, was Stephon Marbury with 30 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Jamal Crawford added 26.

This game was over almost as soon as it started for the listless Knicks, a team that played as bad in the first half as their 29-45 record indicates.

After New York built an 11-4 advantage early, the Nets ran off 21 of the next 27 points to lead 25-17 after the first quarter.

New Jersey started the second frame with a 9-3 burst before ending it with a 16-4 run as the Nets went into halftime with a 57-37 cushion. Kidd led all scorers at the break with 18 points, including 13 in the second quarter.

"(Kidd) is amazing," said New York’s Kurt Thomas. "He does it every night. He brings it. And he gets everyone involved."

This game was never really in doubt after intermission as New Jersey led 87-70 after three quarters, although the Knicks did cut the deficit to six points at one point in the final 12 minutes.

"We had a comfortable lead and they really made a (nice) run," Carter said. "I think for us to stay focused, not to panic and keep attacking, keep fighting and keep playing our game helped us."
