Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Michael Redd dropped in 33 points on 12- of-21 shooting from the field as the Milwaukee Bucks opened a home-and-home set with the Portland Trail Blazers with a 97-93 victory at the Bradley Center.
Charlie Bell added 14 points and dished out eight assists for the Bucks, who have won three of their last four games overall. Bobby Simmons donated 13 points while T.J. Ford had 11 points and six assists.
Darius Miles paced Portland with 26 points and six rebounds as the Trail Blazers dropped their third game in a row and have now lost eight of their last nine overall. Sebastian Telfair netted 21 points with six boards and five assists in the loss.
With Milwaukee holding a slim lead for the majority of the contest, the Bucks took control of the game late in the fourth quarter.
Leading by two points in the final frame, Bell hit a free throw and then followed with a layup to give the Bucks a 90-85 lead with just under five minutes remaining.
Miles went 1-of-2 from the line for Portland and Joe Smith answered with a 15- foot jumper, followed by two from the line by Simmons for a 94-86 Milwaukee lead with 2:29 to go.
Miles and Ford then traded buckets to make it a 96-88 game with under a minute to go.
Juan Dixon hit a running jumper in the lane to make it a six-point game with 33 seconds remaining. Dixon then fouled Bell and he missed both of his shots from the line. Miles pulled down the rebound off his second miss and rushed down the court, drilling a three-pointer off the left wing to make it a 96-93 with nine seconds on the clock.
Redd was then fouled and went 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to make it a four-point game with only 7.7 seconds left. After a timeout, Dixon’s three- point attempt from the left corner hit off the rim and Miles grabbed the rebound. He immediately kicked the ball out to Telfair at the top of the key, and his jumper missed as time expired.
"I thought the energy, the effort and the togetherness that we’ve been asking from these guys on the court was there," said Portland head coach Nate McMillan. "Our guys came out and played hard."
Behind Redd’s 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, the Bucks went into the locker room with a 50-48 lead.
Telfair had a solid first half for Portland, going 5-of-7 from the floor for 15 points.
Milwaukee led 27-22 at the end of the first quarter.
