Denver, CO (Basketball News) - Tony Parker scored 11 of his 29 points in overtime and the San Antonio Spurs escaped with a 126-115 victory over Denver in Game 4 of their first round playoff series.
The Spurs have won three straight in this seven-game set since losing Game 1 at home. They can clinch a berth in the Western Conference semifinals with a Game 5 win Wednesday in San Antonio.
Parker scored seven of his overtime points after Tim Duncan fouled out of the game on a questionable call.
"It’s just one of those things where you don’t realize what you are doing," Parker said.
Duncan ended with 39 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 13-of-23 from the field and 13-of-14 on free throws after going just 5-of-19 for 11 points in Game 3.
"I just love seeing him like that," Parker said. "It’s the real Tim Duncan."
Manu Ginobili, who carried the offensive weight for a struggling Duncan in Game 3, added 24 points off the bench in the win.
Earl Boykins scored a career playoff-high 32 points to lead the Nuggets, who overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half to force overtime. Carmelo Anthony added 28 points in the loss.
"I still think we have a chance to go shock them and get a win," said Nuggets head coach George Karl.
Denver made just three of its eight shots in overtime.
The Spurs, on the other hand, made all five of their field goal tries in overtime. The first three were the key — a Duncan hook shot and two straight jumpers from Parker gave San Antonio a quick 113-107 lead.
Duncan was called for his sixth foul moments later when Anthony took a slip in the lane. He was the closest Spur to the play, and the whistle was quick.
But it didn’t matter. Parker scored five straight points after an Anthony tip- in, and San Antonio led 118-109 with just 1:40 left on the overtime clock.
"We didn’t have enough gas or confidence to come back after that," Karl said. "We battled, we fought, and then we ran out of gas. We need to get the funk out of our bodies and have a freshen-up day before we go back to San Antonio."
Kenyon Martin chipped in 12 points for Denver before fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Marcus Camby also scored 12 and added a team-high eight rebounds.
San Antonio looked to be taking control late in the third quarter when it grabbed a 12-point lead on Duncan’s three-point play with 46 seconds left in the period.
The Spurs led by seven heading into the fourth quarter, but they suffered through a six-minute field goal drought in the period.
The Nuggets took a 95-94 lead on Andre Miller’s free throws with 4:51 left in regulation — their first lead since 35-34 — and went ahead 97-94 on an Anthony jumper moments later.
But San Antonio tied it on a weird three-point play, with Parker making a layup and Bruce Bowen shooting a free throw after an off-ball foul.
The teams played back-and-forth until the regulation buzzer. Parker’s jumper gave the Spurs a 107-105 lead with 27 seconds remaining, and Anthony tied it with free throws 13 seconds later.
Ginobili held for the last shot, but his awkward jumper near the key was blocked by defensive specialist Greg Buckner.
The Nuggets had six blocks in the game, including three by Camby.
San Antonio led 28-27 after a back-and-forth first quarter, went ahead by as many as 10 before halftime, and carried a 57-51 advantage into the break.
