"This move gives us an opportunity to be a major player in one of the deepest drafts in WNBA history," Connecticut coach Mike Thibault said. "We have three of the top 16 picks, and there is a lot of talent in the collegiate ranks."
Johnson averaged 12.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 34 games last season for the Sun, who lost to eventual champion Detroit in the Eastern Conference final. The deal will become official pending a physical from the 5-7 Johnson, who is currently playing overseas in Russia.
She recently became only the second player in league history to post 2,000 points, 600 rebounds and 600 assists in her career.
Connecticut will now have three of the top 16 picks in the draft as it also has the eighth overall selection.
