Michael Jordan, managing member of basketball operations, stated that Bickerstaff will not return as the team’s head coach next year, but will be offered a high-level front office position. Bickerstaff is also the team’s general manager.
"I want him involved as much as he wants to be involved," Jordan said. "We just haven’t decided if that’s as general manager or president of basketball operations or something like that. I think that’s something that we will have discussions about somewhere along the road and see what he feels he wants to do. I see him staying within the organization for some time."
Bickerstaff, who will finish out the remainder of this season on Charlotte’s bench, has guided the Bobcats to a 23-41 record, which is in last place in the Southeast Division.
Bickerstaff has been head coach/general manager of the team since it first entered the league in 2004. In three seasons, the franchise has struggled with a record of 67-161.
