Boozer, Jazz top Grizzlies

Salt Lake City, UT (Basketball News) - Carlos Boozer scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and the Utah Jazz topped the Memphis Grizzlies, 118-108.

Matt Harpring scored 24 points for the Jazz, who had lost five of six entering the game. Deron Williams scored 21 points and tallied 13 assists, and Paul Millsap finished with 14 rebounds and 11 points.

Dahntay Jones scored 26 points for the Grizzlies, who have lost three straight and 11 of 13. Pau Gasol scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Tarance Kinsey added 20 points for Memphis.

Jones drilled a three in the final seconds of the first quarter to pull the Grizzlies to within 32-28 entering the second quarter.

Utah started the second quarter with six straight points to open up a 10-point lead, with a Harpring layup putting the Jazz ahead 38-28 with 10:30 left in the first half. Utah continued to pour it on, outscoring Memphis 35-17 in the second quarter, and taking a 67-45 lead into the break.

The Jazz led in double-figures for the entire second half, with the Grizzlies never threatening. The Jazz ran off seven straight late in the third quarter, taking a 95-75 lead on a Millsap layup with 31 seconds left in the third quarter.

Memphis outscored Utah 33-28 in the third, but the Jazz still held a 95-78 lead entering the final 12 minutes.

Memphis only managed to cut the Jazz lead late in the fourth quarter, after Utah had pulled its starters.

Game Notes

Utah’s Derek Fisher (2,502) surpassed 2,500 career assists...Both teams shot 50 percent or better (Memphis shot 53 percent, Utah shot 50 percent), but both struggled from behind the arc (both teams made 2-of-11 three-pointers).
