(Basketball News) - The Boston Celtics continued to stumble into the postseason on Tuesday with an 84-77 setback to the Miami Heat at the FleetCenter.
Ricky Davis paced Boston with 25 points. Jiri Welsch collected 11 points and seven boards for the Celtics, who have dropped five in a row.
Boston played without guard Paul Pierce, who is sidelined with a sprained right ankle. Pierce suffered the injury during last Wednesday’s contest against the Heat.
Boston is already locked into the eighth position in the Eastern Conference and will face the conference-leading Pacers in the first round of the playoffs. The two clubs met in the opening round of the postseason last year as Boston ousted Indiana in six games.
The Celtics close their regular season slate on Wednesday against the lowly Atlanta Hawks.
