Both Jerry Sloan and Phil Jackson Complain about Officials

05.11.2008 - Updated on 05.11.2008

First, Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan cried foul Friday morning about the way his players were called for fouls against Lakers guard Kobe Bryant in the first two games of the second-round playoff series.

Then, Lakers coach Phil Jackson cried foul Saturday afternoon about the way Sloan cried foul.

Bryant shot a franchise playoff-record 23 free throws in the Lakers’ victory in Game 1, and then had 12more in their win in Game 2. What’s more, the Lakers shot 89 free throws in the first two games to only 46 for the Jazz.

"He’s had pretty much a free reign because it’s a non-contact sport when you guard him," Sloan said before Utah’s win in Game 3 on Friday night. "You see Ronnie (Brewer) get a couple of fouls (and) he becomes so conservative and so concerned that he’s going to come out of the ballgame, and that’s a hard thing to overcome."
