Brand, Clippers subdue Warriors

02.24.2007

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Elton Brand scored 31 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked a career-high eight shots to lead the Los Angeles Clippers over the Golden State Warriors, 103-90, at the Staples Center.

Corey Maggette added 18 points and eight rebounds and Shaun Livingston tallied 14 points to go along with a career-high 14 assists for the Clippers, who ended a four-game losing streak. Tim Thomas had 17 points and 10 boards and Cuttino Mobley tallied 15 points for Los Angeles, which won for just the second time in nine games.

"Defensively we did an excellent job," said LA head coach Mike Dunleavy. "We were active and aggressive. That’s the way we have to play. Elton did a great job of controlling the paint and blocking shots."

Al Harrington had 24 points and seven boards to lead the Warriors, who had a two-game win streak snapped. Jason Richardson added 18 points for Golden State, which has lost nine of its last 11 versus the Clippers.

Ahead 83-81 a little less than midway through the fourth quarter, the Clippers ripped off eight straight points to forge ahead by 10 points. Maggette scored five points during the surge, which gave LA a 91-81 cushion.

The lead later ballooned to 103-88 after a Mobley three-pointer with 26.8 seconds left.

"This is one of our better defensive games of the season," said Brand. "I enjoy blocking shots it sends a message. It was a team effort."

Los Angeles, which led 28-26 after one quarter and went into the half down 51-50, received only eight points from the bench.

The Clippers led 76-74 after three quarters.
