Carlos Arroyo Signs Three-year Deal to Play in Israel By C.Y. Ellis 08.3.2008 - Updated on 08.3.2008
| And so it continues. After getting no love from his Orlando Magic during the playoffs or, evidently, contract negotiations, Carlos Arroyo has decided to sign on the line for Israeli powerhouse Maccabi Tel-Aviv. The deal stands to pay him $2.5 million next year, nearly all of which cash he’ll see since the club will likely pay his taxes.
Arroyo’s three-year deal includes the standard opt-out clause that will allow him to terminate the contract after either of his first two seasons in order to return to the NBA. Maccabi, who beat the Toronto Raptors in an exhibition game prior to the start of the ’05-’06 season, were rumoured to be pursuing Miami free agent Jason Williams. Instead, Arroyo will helm the point for them next year, strengthening what was already one of the most formidable squads in the Euroleague.
So, how many more will leave the NBA for "greener" pastures across the pond this summer? Will the league respond or is this the beginning of a major trend? Let us know what you think in the comment box below.

Carlos has been a influental player to me and due to that Im an unpaid AND1 endorsee whereas Carlos is a paid one. Carlos just need to put a situation where the stakes are high so when he returns, he will begin to seak more and destory more. haters you have been warned . | Posted by israeltraveler on 08.4.2008 | I LIke to address about NBA one comment was this player going to feel better about him self for a team that you all think isn’t very good well last time I read Israel teams are very good at BasketballNBA plays in off season aginst all teams & they played against TEL-AVE & got beat so this player may get to know more then America Basketball can ever show him and I hope he takes ever advantage to enjoy his trip to Israel ! . | Posted by MR. BASKET on 08.4.2008 | Believe it or not, I actually think that it can be quite good for NBA players to play in Europe for a while; Due to athletic inferiority In the Euroleague compared to the NBA, the European basketball is more - and excuse me guys - intelligent. When these players return to the NBA, they will have an advantage by this experience. . | Posted by on 08.4.2008 | If it’s OK that European players play in the NBA, then I don’t see any reason why not vice versa . | Posted by on 08.4.2008 | you guys are still hurt when this bum beat US in the olympics. This is a guy that aveg. 7point/game and 3.5 assit in his career in the nba coming from the bench . | Posted by JRKID on 08.4.2008 | For some reason the NBA keeps on putting labels on players like: these are stars, these are role players, these are bench players, etc. and coaches don’t give chances to those "bench players" to improve. Also, is it a coincidence that most of these players "leaving" the NBA are not USA citizens and most of them are exactly what the NBA label as "bench players", eh? On top of that NBA contracts are like this... this money - for the player, and this money - for taxes, and this money - for taxes... come on!!! . | Posted by bruh on 08.4.2008 | good all these bums need to keep leaving . | Posted by on 08.3.2008 | nothing to worry. these bench players just wanna feel better about themselvs so they go to be stars on teams that arent nearly as good or competetive as the nba . |
