Cavs finish road trip against Garnett, Timberwolves

(Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers wrap up a five-game road trip when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at the Target Center.

Cleveland is 2-2 on the swing and will try and get back on the winning track this evening. On Sunday, Delonte West hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds left to lift the Boston Celtics to a 98-96 win over the Cavaliers at TD Banknorth Garden.

Superstar LeBron James missed the game for the Cavaliers due to right knee tendinitis, but despite his injury, Cleveland nearly pulled out a win. Damon Jones missed a shot from the right corner under heavy pressure from Boston’s Allan Ray to end the game.

Larry Hughes had 24 points and made all 12 of his free throws in the setback for the Cavaliers, who lost for the fifth time in their last eight contests overall.

James is questionable for tonight’s game. The All-Star forward is averaging 27.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 70 games this season.

The Cavaliers are 17-20 on the road this season. They return home to host Shaquille O’Neal and the Miami Heat on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.

Cleveland is the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race, 3 1/2 games behind the Detroit Pistons for the top spot in the Central and the conference.

Minnesota tries to pick up its second straight win. Ricky Davis poured in a season-high 36 points and hit a three-pointer with 11.5 seconds left in overtime to give theTimberwolves a 105-104 win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday at Amway Arena.

Davis, who shot 13-of-21 from the floor, scored the Timberwolves’ final 13 points of the game, including all seven in overtime. Kevin Garnett finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists for Minnesota, which halted a three-game skid.

The Timberwolves are 20-15 as the host this season. They will visit the New York Knicks on Friday at Madison Square Garden.

This is the second and final time the Timberwolves and Cavaliers will meet this season. On November 17th, James poured in 37 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Cleveland past Minnesota, 92-76, at Quicken Loans Arena.

Cleveland has lost five of its last seven at Minnesota. However, the Cavaliers have won two in a row in the series.
