Celtics’ Pierce out for season

04.11.2007

Boston, MA (Basketball News) - Boston Celtics swingman Paul Pierce will sit out the remainder of the season with a sore left elbow.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound forward/guard had surgery on the elbow before the season and had an infection in it earlier in the season. He has not seen action since a 105-96 double-overtime win over Orlando on March 28.

The Kansas product averaged 25 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in 47 games this season.

Boston has a 23-54 record and has long been officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Celtics head coach Doc Rivers also said forward Brian Scalabrine will sit out the rest of the schedule, and will make decisions on the status of forward Al Jefferson and guard Delonte West.
