(Basketball News) - The Chicago Bulls lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 109-98, on Wednesday at SBC Center.
Eddy Curry and Lonny Baxter each scored 19 points for the Bulls, who have lost seven straight games. Jamal Crawford had 12 points and seven assists in the loss, Chicago’s fifth straight against the Spurs.
Earlier in the day, the Bulls stated that Scott Skiles agreed to a deal to become the team’s next head coach and the official announcement will come on Friday. Skiles will succeed Bill Cartwright, who was fired on Monday after the Bulls got off to a 4-10 start. Pete Myers was named the club’s interim coach and he has began with an 0-2 mark after also losing to Dallas on Tuesday night.
San Antonio led by five at the intermission, but opened up a 12-point edge at 61-49 on Tim Duncan’s basket midway through the third quarter. The margin grew as high as 14 points later in the frame and the Spurs enjoyed a 75-63 lead after three periods.
Chicago trailed 83-72 early in the fourth, but it then used an 8-0 run, capped by Donyell Marshall’s three-pointer, and climbed within 83-80.
However, San Antonio would not allow the game to get any closer.
The Bulls are off until Monday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks.
