New York, NY (Basketball News) - The Cleveland Cavaliers were issued a $5,000 fine for a skit that mocked former guard Ricky Davis upon his return to Gund Arena on February 9.
Davis, now with the Boston Celtics, had his old No. 31 Cavaliers jersey used by the team’s mascot to wipe the floor.
After a trouble-ridden stay in Cleveland, Davis was sent to Boston in a six- player trade late last year. Davis was an offensive force during his time with Cleveland while averaging 15.3 points and 5.5 assists per game, but he clashed with new head coach Paul Silas, who wanted more out of Davis on the defensive end.
This is the second time this season that the league has reprimanded a team for an ill-advised skit. Utah was also fined by the league after putting a video of Karl Malone on the scoreboard criticizing his new teammate, Kobe Bryant.
