Clippers extend Dunleavy’s contract 12.14.2006
|
Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations, Elgin Baylor, announced the extension on Tuesday. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
"Mike Dunleavy has proven that he is an outstanding basketball coach," said Baylor. "Mike has already experienced a lot of success with the Clippers, and there is no doubt in my mind that he is the right person to continue to lead this team in the future."
Dunleavy, 52, ranks second on the Clippers all-time list for coaching victories and is ninth amongst active NBA coaches. He has increased the team’s win total each year since he took over in 2003, and last season, guided Los Angeles to 47 wins and its first playoff appearance in nine seasons.
The 1999 Coach of the Year while with Portland, Dunleavy and his Clippers were within one game of the Western Conference Finals before dropping Game 7 to the Phoenix Suns.
Dunleavy, who has also coached the Lakers and Milwaukee, is 516-531 in his coaching career, which includes a 6-7 mark so far this season. He is the third all-time leading scorer in University of South Carolina history and also spent 11 years in the NBA as a player.
