Clippers try to stop skid against Warriors

02.24.2007

(Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Clippers will try and stop a four-game losing streak when they resume a five-game homestand this afternoon versus the division-rival Golden State Warriors at the Staples Center.

Los Angeles has dropped seven of its last eight games, including Tuesday’s 115-90 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Corey Maggette led the Clippers with 19 points, while Elton Brand had 17 points and Daniel Ewing added 16.

The Clippers are fourth in the Pacific Division and own a 17-10 record as the host this season. They will also welcome Charlotte and Seattle to the City of Angels on the homestand.

On the injury front, Clippers forward Tim Thomas (ankle), center Chris Kaman (flu) and guard Cuttino Mobley (groin) are questionable for Saturday’s contests versus the Warriors.

Golden State has won two in a row following a two-game slide, and posted a 118-115 overtime victory versus the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday at ORACLE Arena.

Stephen Jackson scored 26 points and tallied 12 assists to lead the Warriors, who are third in the Pacific standings. Al Harrington and Monta Ellis scored 22 points apiece in the win. Andris Biedrins scored 21 points and pulled down 14 boards, while Jason Richardson returned from a seven-week absence with a fractured right hand to record 19 points and 10 boards.

The Warriors will now hit the road where they have lost two straight and own a 6-20 record this season. In injury news, Golden State forward Matt Barnes (hamstring/knee) is probable for Saturday’s game against LA.

Saturday’s showdown between Golden State and the Clippers is the third of four meetings this season. Each team has a win so far this season, but the Clippers have won 11 of 15 and 12 of the last 18 meetings. They will close out the 2006-07 series on March 9 in Oakland.

Golden State has lost five straight and six of its last seven at the Clippers.
