Clippers try to win five in a row

Cleveland, OH (Basketball News) - The surprising Los Angeles Clippers get their first look at LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight when they start a three-game road trip at Gund Arena.

The Clippers, who have dropped two straight to the Cavs, come into tonight’s game after winning their fourth straight for the first time since March 8-13, 2002. Los Angeles has not won five straight since November 10-17, 1995.

Los Angeles has won four in a row after opening the season with consecutive losses to the Seattle SuperSonics in Japan.

Quentin Richardson scored 31 points and pulled down nine rebounds to pace the Clippers to a 95-92 win over the Orlando Magic at the Staples Center on Saturday night.

Corey Maggette had a solid game for the Clippers against Orlando, scoring 17 points, grabbing seven boards and dishing out six assists. Marko Jaric added 15 points and eight assists in the victory. Jaric finished 3-for-4 from three- point range.

Clippers forward Elton Brand, who has missed the last five games with a hairline stress fracture in his right foot, was placed on the injured list Saturday. Glen Rice, who had been sidelined since training camp with a hyper- extended right knee, took Brand’s roster spot.

The Clippers are 2-1 on the road this season.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored a season-high 28 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists, as the Cavaliers upset the Philadelphia 76ers, 91-88, in overtime Saturday.

The rookie sensation James contributed 22 points and eight assists for the Cavaliers, who beat the 76ers for the first time in 17 tries. Carlos Boozer added 15 points and 15 rebounds in the victory. Darius Miles grabbed 12 rebounds for Cleveland.

The Cavs beat Philly for the first time since April 2, 1999.

Cleveland is 3-1 at home.

In 2002-03, Cleveland swept the season series with the Clippers. The Cavs won 98-96 at the Staples Center on October 30, 2002 and 104-100 at Gund Arena on January 27, 2003.

Overall, Cleveland has won 11 of 15 and 14 of the last 19 meetings.
