Appleby leads No. 24 Washington over Arizona State

Seattle, WA (Basketball News) - Ryan Appleby scored 20 points to lead 24th- ranked Washington over Arizona State, 64-53, at Bank of America Arena.

Appleby hit 6-of-8 three-pointers to help the Huskies (11-4, 1-3 Pac-10) end a three-game slide. Jon Brockman added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Washington, which used a 10-4 run in the second half to pull away and earn its first conference win.

Jeff Pendergraph had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Sun Devils (6-9, 0-4), who have dropped five in a row. Derek Glasser added 13 points for Arizona State, which remains winless in conference play.

After the Sun Devils’ Antwi Atuahene drained a three-pointer at the 10:36 mark to draw ASU within 43-40, Washington went on its run. The Huskies answered with a 10-4 surge, capped by Appleby’s three-pointer with 4:42 left for a 53-44 advantage. Brockman had five points during the surge, which allowed the Huskies to cruise to the final buzzer.

Atuahene ended with 10 points for ASU, which has dropped eight straight to the Huskies.

The first half was closely contested. Washington led 17-14 midway through and held a slim 31-30 edge at the break.
