It looks like Minnesota (31-42) will miss the postseason for the third straight year. The Timberwolves are five games behind the Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Minnesota will play six of its final nine games at home. The Timberwolves will host the Cavaliers, New Orleans/Oklahoma City, Toronto, Dallas, San Antonio and Memphis. Their final road contests are against New York, Golden State and Denver.
The 30-year-old Garnett leads the Timberwolves in scoring (22.8 ppg) and rebounding (12.9 rpg). He has scored in double- digits in all 72 games he has played this season. Garnett, who is playing in his 12th season in the league, is averaging 21.3 points and 14.7 rebounds in his last 10 outings.
Garnett, who led Minnesota to the 2003-04 Western Conference finals, may be playing his final games in a Timberwolves’ uniform. The franchise may look to rebuild during the offseason, which would mean trading Garnett for younger players and draft picks. Going their separate ways may be the best thing for all parties involved.
The Cavaliers wrap up a five-game road trip when they visit the Timberwolves on Tuesday at the Target Center. It is the second and final time the Timberwolves and Cavaliers will meet this season. On November 17th, LeBron James poured in 37 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Cleveland past Minnesota, 92-76, at Quicken Loans Arena.
Cleveland has lost five of its last seven at Minnesota. However, the Cavaliers have won two in a row in the series.
Minnesota tries to pick up its second straight win. Ricky Davis poured in a season-high 36 points and hit a three-pointer with 11.5 seconds left in overtime to give the Timberwolves a 105-104 win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday at Amway Arena.
Davis, who shot 13-of-21 from the floor, scored the Timberwolves’ final 13 points of the game, including all seven in overtime. Garnett finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists for Minnesota, which halted a three-game skid.
The Timberwolves are 20-15 as the host this season. They will visit the Knicks on Friday at Madison Square Garden.
