Curry and New York down Portland 01.4.2007
|
Jamal Crawford added 25 points and six assists for the Knicks, who snapped a three-game skid. Stephon Marbury chipped in with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven helpers for New York.
"I tried to get it going tonight," said Curry. "I’m trying to read defenses better. It all depends. I try to read it and make a move."
Zach Randolph had 15 points and nine boards for the Trail Blazers, who lost their fourth straight contest and for the sixth time in seven games. Rookie Brandon Roy tallied 14 points and Jarrett Jack finished with 11 and seven assists.
"We’re not playing together," said Randolph. "We’ve got to get back together as a team and refocus. (Eddy) Curry is a beast. I’ve known him since high school so I know what he can do. It’s up to us (as players) to see within ourselves what we have to do."
Portland took a slim 24-23 edge after the opening 12 minutes but New York bounced back with an excellent second quarter to lead 51-42 at intermission.
The Knicks then put the game away with a dominant third quarter. Curry and Crawford had seven points apiece in the frame as New York outscored the Trail Blazers 29-18 to take a 20-point edge, 80-60, into the fourth quarter.
Portland never recovered and couldn’t make a serious run in the fourth quarter. Sergio Rodriguez nailed a jumper with about 7 1/2 minutes left to make it 82-69.
However, the Knicks answered with a David Lee lay-in and a pair of Curry free throws over the next minute.
New York coasted to the finish line from there.
