(Basketball News) - Antoine Walker finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead Dallas to a 125-97 win over New Orleans on Tuesday at American Airlines Center.
Michael Finley delivered 20 points while Dirk Nowitzki contributed 18 points for the Mavericks, who never trailed. They used a strong third quarter to secure their second straight victory overall and eighth straight over New Orleans. Steve Nash chipped in with 17 points, on 5-of-5 three-pointers, and 11 assists.
Baron Davis’ driving layup, less than two minutes into the third quarter, pulled the Hornets within six at 66-60.
Dallas then went on a 23-2 run, to highlight their 31-16 edge in the quarter, to pull away. Nash’s three-pointer triggered it, and Walker added seven points to give his team an 89-62 lead.
A three-pointer by Davis in the final minute of the third got the Hornets within 95-70 at the end of the quarter.
The Mavericks continued to pull away in the fourth quarter. A basket by Travis Best put them ahead 105-72 with 9:05 remaining.
New Orleans got no closer than 24 points the rest of the way.
The Mavs host Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets on Thursday.
