Davis and Hornets to meet Kidd and Nets

11.18.2003

East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - The New Orleans Hornets and New Jersey Nets both put their two-game winning streaks on the line tonight when they square off at Continental Airlines Arena.

Baron Davis scored 23 points and handed out eight assists as the Hornets had no problem defeating Portland, 101-79, in front of their home crowd on Saturday night.

Darrell Armstrong added 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting off the bench for the Hornets, who won their second in a row overall and fifth straight at home against Portland.

The Hornets are 2-2 on the road this season.

The Nets, who can win consecutive games at home for the first time this season, cruised to a 100-85 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night.

Kenyon Martin scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to pace the Nets to the win. Jason Kidd added 21 points and eight assists for the Nets, who won their second straight after losing four of five.

Richard Jefferson netted 14 points and Alonzo Mourning added 10 off the bench for New Jersey, which shot 48 percent (35-of-73) from the floor against the Hawks. The Nets went 4-of-9 from three-point range and 26-of-30 from the free throw line.

New Jersey dominated in the paint (40-26) and on the break (17-10) against the Hawks.

The Nets are just 2-3 as the host.

In 2002-03, the teams split four meetings as each club one once as the host and once as the visitor.

Overall, the Hornets have won the last two contests, while New Jersey has won five of the last eight. The Hornets lead the all-time series, 31-26.
