Davis and Stojakovic named NBA Players of the Month

New York, NY (Basketball News) - New Orleans’ Baron Davis and Sacramento’s Peja Stojakovic were named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played from the beginning of the season (October 28) through November.

Davis ranked third in the league averaging 24.3 points and 8.2 assists per game. The point guard was also second in the NBA posting 2.82 steals per contest as he has guided the Hornets to an 11-6 mark.

He poured in a season-high 37 points, dished out seven assists and had a season-high five steals in a 97-90 win over Boston on November 1. On a November 5 victory against Philadelphia, he again scored 37 points while handing out six assists. Three nights later, Davis scored 35 points and had a season-high 13 assists in a 109-106 loss to Chicago.

Stojakovic averaged 23.3 points on 53 percent shooting from the field as he has guided the Kings to an eight-game winning streak and an overall record of 12-4. The guard is also connecting 42 percent from three-point range.

He had 34 points and six rebounds in a 125-121 overtime win over Minnesota on November 5. Stojakovic netted 33 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, handed out four assists and had one block in a win over the Warriors on November 16. Three nights later, he poured in 30 points, grabbed seven boards and had three assists in another overtime win against Utah.

Other candidates for NBA Player of the Month were Detroit’s Chauncey Billups, Indiana’s Ron Artest, Karl Malone of the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami’s Eddie Jones, Kevin Garnett of the Timberwolves, Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson, Phoenix’s Stephon Marbury, Zach Randolph of the Trail Blazers, Seattle’s Rashard Lewis and Ronald Murray and Andrei Kirilenko of the Jazz.
