Davis boosts Warriors over Wizards

03.24.2007

Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - Baron Davis poured in 34 points, tallied 15 assists, and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 135-128 win over the Washington Wizards.

Andris Biedrins had 24 points and 12 boards, and Monta Ellis added 24 points and eight boards for the Warriors, who have won four of five, but remained a half-game behind the LA Clippers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Jason Richardson finished with 23 points for Golden State.

Gilbert Arenas scored 29 points and doled out 13 assists for the Wizards, who have lost two of three, but remained a half-game ahead of the Miami Heat for first place in the Southeast Division. Miami lost to Indiana on Friday.

Antawn Jamison finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Wizards, and Darius Songaila had 17 points.

The Warriors led 124-114 with 4:35 left, but Jamison and Arenas hit threes on a 10-2 run, cutting the lead to 126-124 with 2:20 left. Richardson hit a three on the next possession, though, and Davis hit a jumper and one-of-two free throws to push the Warriors lead back to 132-125 in the last minute, and Golden State held on for the win.

Washington turnovers fueled a 14-2 Warriors run to open the second half. A Mickael Pietrus layup closed the run, posting the Warriors to a 78-75 lead with 8:19 left. The teams traded baskets down the stretch in the third, but the Warriors pulled away at the end, with Davis sinking a three in the final seconds to send Golden State into the final 12 minutes ahead 102-94.

Richardson scored 10 points in the first quarter, and a Biedrins jump hook in the final seconds cut the Washington lead to 37-35 entering the second quarter.

Washington led 73-64 at the half.

Game Notes

Washington had won three in a row over Warriors...Golden State guard Stephen Jackson was ejected in the first quarter. Jackson received a technical foul after fouling Arenas at midcourt with 10.3 seconds left. Jackson earned a second technical while waiting for Arenas to take his free throws, and reacted angrily. His teammates had to hold him back from arguing with officials as he left the court.
