Davis lifts Timberwolves over Magic in OT

With the score tied at 102-102, Kevin Garnett was whistled for a questionable goaltending call on Grant Hill’s driving layup with 19 seconds remaining as Orlando took the lead.

However, on Minnesota’s ensuing possession, Garnett found an open Davis and his trey put the Timberwolves in front. The Magic went to Jameer Nelson on their last possession, but his layup in the lane was rejected by Garnett as Minnesota held on for the win.

Davis, who shot 13-of-21 from the floor, scored the Timberwolves’ final 13 points of the game, including all seven in overtime.

Garnett finished with 22 points, 14 rebound and eight assists as Minnesota halted a three-game skid.

Hill scored 23 points, Darko Milicic and Trevor Ariza each had 18 off the bench and Dwight Howard ripped down 19 rebounds for the Magic, who fell a half game behind idle New Jersey for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. Orlando also saw the Pacers pull within 1 1/2 games for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Down 89-83 midway through the final period, the Magic ripped off 12 straight points to surge in front. Keyon Dooling hit a running jumper before making two from the line to bring Orlando within 89-87. Ariza’s acrobatic layup tied the game and Hill followed with a three-point play to give Orlando the lead. Milicic hit a free throw and Howard dunked to complete the run and make it 95-89 with 2:38 remaining.

A Randy Foye three ended the run and Davis’ trey with 1:23 left brought Minnesota back within 98-95. Ariza then fouled Davis on a three-point attempt with 21.7 seconds remaining and he made each of his free throw attempts to tie the game at 98-98. Nelson had two looks at the game-winner, but came up empty as the game went to over time.

The Timberwolves led 31-23 after the opening 12 minutes but Orlando battled back in the second quarter and pulled within 54-53 on J.J. Redick’s running three at the buzzer before halftime. The Magic led briefly late in the third quarter, but Minnesota carried a 79-74 advantage into the final quarter.
