Davis, Warriors battle past Clippers

Monta Ellis scored 24 points for the Warriors, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Mike Dunleavy had 18 points and a season-high 13 rebounds off the bench. Matt Barnes added 17 points.

"I thought we played pretty well, we scrapped and got after it a little bit," Dunleavy said. "We rebounded pretty well and did what we needed to do to win. With guys out, only eight players you’ve got to play that way. It wasn’t always pretty but we got the job done."

On the injury front for Golden State, center Adonal Foyle (sprained right ankle) and guard Keith McLeod (strained abdominal muscle) both sat out. With Jason Richardson and Mickael Pietrus already sidelined, the Warriors won with only eight players dressed.

Elton Brand posted 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Clippers, who lost their second straight. Corey Maggette notched 18 points and 11 boards off the bench. Quinton Ross netted 16 points, Sam Cassell had 15, and Shaun Livingston and Cuttino Mobley both added 10.

Golden State edged just a one-point lead after the first quarter, but did its damage in the second. Trailing by one, the Warriors took off on a 10-2 spurt capped by a Barnes runner with 7:19 remaining. They led 60-51 at halftime.

The Clippers came out of the locker room with renewed vigor. After a Troy Murphy turnaround jumper 35 seconds into the stanza, LA exploded on a 21-9 burst capped by a Ross layup to put the Clippers ahead by one with 3:46 left, and led 81-79 heading into the fourth.

However, Golden State slowed LA down in the fourth and its offense exploded. After a pair of Mobley jumpers, the Warriors went on a 19-2 burst capped by a Barnes trey with 6:05 to play for a 15-point lead, and cruised to victory thereafter.

"I thought they made a couple of big hustle plays and a couple of defensive plays," LA coach Mike Dunleavy said. "They got into the open court, got some fast breaks and gained some momentum. They got rolling and then it snowballed from there. We missed some opportunities and they built up a double digit lead and that was the end of the game."

Game Notes

This was the first of a home-and-home set. The Warriors will visit the Clippers on Wednesday at the Staples Center. It was the first of four meetings between the squads this season...LA has won six of its last nine at Golden State.
