Deng scores 30 as Bulls trounce Pistons

01.7.2007

Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - Luol Deng scored 30 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Chicago trounced Detroit, 106-89, at the United Center.

Ben Gordon added 23 points off the bench for the Bulls, who snapped a 12-game skid against the Pistons in the Windy City. The last time Chicago beat Detroit at home was on January 22, 2000.

"We played well. We were making shots," said Deng. "For the guys that have been here, it’s nice to beat them. The best thing we did was stick to our defense. That gave us a chance."

Andres Nocioni chipped in with 21 points while Ben Wallace had 12 points and a game-high 14 boards against his ex-teammates.

Richard Hamilton tallied 27 points and dished out six assists for the Pistons, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Nazr Mohammed finished with 15 points while Jason Maxiell contributed 13 points.

The Bulls took a slim 32-28 advantage after the opening 12 minutes and extended their lead to nine, 55-46, at intermission.

Chicago then put things away with an excellent third quarter in which they outscored the Pistons, 29-20. Gordon’s jumper, with less than a minute to go in the frame, capped the scoring with the Bulls on top, 84-66.

Gordon then opened up the fourth quarter with a four-point play to give Chicago its first 20-point lead, 88-66.

The Pistons never seriously threatened from there as the Bulls coasted toward the finish line.

Game Notes

The Pistons had won five in a row in this series...Detroit is 10-7 on the road this season...The Bulls are 15-3 at the United Center this season.
