(Basketball News) - The Denver Nuggets fell to the New Jersey Nets, 95-91, on Tuesday at the Pepsi Center.
Carmelo Anthony scored a team-high 26 points for the Nuggets, who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Voshon Lenard delivered 15 points and Andre Miller added 14 points and six assists in the loss.
Richard Jefferson contributed 11 points for the Nets, who scored seven straight points midway through the fourth quarter to snap a 77-77 tie. Kenyon Martin’s three-point play put them ahead 84-77 with 7:17 to play.
Miller’s short jumper, off an offensive rebound, capped a 10-3 flurry and forged an 87-87 tie for the Nuggets with 1:23 to go. New Jersey, though, responded with four straight tallies and a layup by Martin with 21.3 seconds to play put the team ahead 91-87.
A basket by Nene five seconds later got Denver within 91-89, but Kerry Kittles converted four straight foul shots in the final 15.1 seconds to secure the victory for the Nets.
Earl Boykins scored 10 points off the bench for the Nuggets, who lost for the second time in their last seven at home.
The Nuggets are off until Saturday when they host Ben Wallace and the Detroit Pistons. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two clubs. Detroit has won four straight over the Nuggets, who last defeated the Pistons on December 20, 2000 in Denver.
Anthony has scored 25 or more points in five straight games. He is averaging 27.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in that span.
