Denver Nuggets Team Report - November 8 11.8.2003
|
(Basketball News) - The Denver Nuggets lost a tough game Friday in overtime to the Los Angeles Clippers, 104-102, at the Pepsi Center.
Nuggets rookie sensation Carmelo Anthony posted a career-high 30 points in the defeat. Earl Boykins added 19 for Denver, which has split its six games this season. The Nuggets, though, lost for the first time on their home floor in three tries.
Andre Miller hit just 5-of-15 shots and finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists against his former team. Miller, who played with the Clippers last season after getting traded from Cleveland, signed with Denver as a free agent this past offseason.
Anthony opened the extra session with a shot from behind the arc to give the Nuggets a 91-88 advantage. A basket by Quentin Richardson drew LA within one, but Anthony hit another three-pointer to make it a four-point game.
Chris Wilcox and Anthony then traded baskets to keep the margin at four with just over two minutes left in overtime. Two straight baskets by Richardson, though, tied the game at 96-96.
A short jumper by Corey Maggette and a lay-up by Marco Jaric then made it 100-96 in favor of the Clippers with under a minute to play. The Nuggets pulled within a basket at 101-99, but Maggette sealed the contest with a breakaway dunk with 5.5 second left.
Denver is off until Sunday when it visits the Toronto Raptors.
