Chauncey Billups scored a season-high 29 points for the Pistons, while Elden Campbell added 12 points and seven boards in the loss.
Detroit is 0-3 on its current four-game road trip, which finishes up Saturday night against the Phoenix Suns.
The Pistons shot 42.5 percent from the field, including just 20 percent (2- for-10) from long distance. Detroit hit all 14 of his free throws in the losing effort.
Detroit is 2-3 on the road and 0-3 versus the Western Conference this season.
The Pistons have lost six of 10 and eight of the last 13 meetings with the Suns. The Suns own a 55-49 lead in the all-time series between the teams.
