Duncan leads Spurs over Raptors

02.27.2007

San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Tim Duncan scored 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, leading San Antonio to a 107-91 pounding of the Raptors.

Tony Parker had 27 points and nine assists for the Spurs, who have won six in a row overall and have beaten Toronto five straight times. Robert Horry added 14 points, Manu Ginobili 13 and Michael Finley 10 for San Antonio, which is unbeaten in eight games against Atlantic Division teams this season.

Rasho Nesterovic had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Raptors, who had a two-game winning streak broken. Rookie Andrea Bargnani tallied 17 points and Chris Bosh 14 for Toronto, which lost the services of guard Anthony Parker in the second quarter due to a right ankle injury.

Parker was hurt when he landed on the foot of San Antonio’s Bruce Bowen with 4:55 remaining until halftime. Parker had to be helped to the locker room with the Spurs ahead 49-30 at the time.

"We really jumped on them early on and I thought we did an excellent job defensively," Duncan said. "We didn’t let Chris get rolling; we pressured their shooters so we ran them off the line. They hit some shots later in the game that kind of got them back within striking distance, but all in all I thought we just did an excellent job defensively."

The Raptors were ahead 15-11 after Bosh’s jumper midway through the opening quarter, but the Spurs scored the next nine points and didn’t trail the rest of the way. Duncan’s jumper capped the burst and it was 27-22 after 12 minutes.

Ginobili’s jumper made it 38-28 with 8:33 remaining until halftime. It was part of 10 consecutive San Antonio points, and when the smoke cleared following Duncan’s three-point play it was 43-28.

San Antonio led 62-38 at the half and 88-64 going into the fourth, as Horry ended the third period scoring with a three-pointer. The Raptors never threatened in the final 12 minutes.

"They are one of the best defensive teams in the league and so you have to beat them as a team," Nesterovic said. "They have three All-Stars and they really know who to execute a game plan."

Game Notes

San Antonio has won nine of the last 10 meetings. That includes six consecutive home wins over Toronto...The Spurs shot 53.2 percent from the field...Bosh also had nine boards and Jose Calderon ended with eight assists for Toronto.
