(Basketball News) - The Golden State Warriors lost to the Phoenix Suns, 99-96, on Monday at the Arena.
Jason Richardson netted 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds before leaving late in the fourth quarter with a sprained left ankle for the Warriors, who had their two-game winning streak halted. Brian Cardinal had a career-high 17 points, while Nick Van Exel contributed 13 in the losing effort.
Golden State trailed by seven after three periods, but climbed within 84-82 on Richardson’s three-pointer with just under seven minutes left in the fourth. Phoenix then scored the next six points to widen the gap to 90-82.
The Warriors made a game out of it in the final minute as they cut the deficit to 99-96 on a pair of free throws by Cardinal with 44.3 seconds left. Anfernee Hardaway then missed a running floater for Phoenix and Golden State grabbed the rebound with just under 10 seconds left.
Van Exel’s three-pointer as time ran out hit the side of the rim and the game came to an end.
The Warriors are off until Wednesday when the host Larry Brown and the Detroit Pistons.
