Grizzlies aim to block Suns in desert

03.26.2007

(Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns try to get back on the winning track when they host the Memphis Grizzlies tonight at US Airways Center.

On Sunday, Mike Bibby poured in 37 points, including a career-high 9-of-12 from three-point range, as the Sacramento Kings downed Phoenix, 107-100, at ARCO Arena.

Leandro Barbosa posted 27 points and Amare Stoudemire netted 23 with 11 rebounds for the Suns, who were denied their third straight victory. Reigning MVP Steve Nash contributed 18 points and nine assists, while Shawn Marion scored 17 and grabbed eight boards in defeat.

Phoenix, which has already clinched its third straight Pacific Division title, is 28-7 at home this season. The Suns will visit the Golden State Warriors on Thursday at ORACLE Arena.

Memphis has dropped three in a row and plays the second of a six-game road trip this evening. Carlos Boozer scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, as the Utah Jazz topped the Grizzlies, 118-108, at EnergySolutions Arena.

Dahntay Jones scored 26 points for the Grizzlies, who have lost 11 of their last 13 games overall. Pau Gasol poured in 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Tarance Kinsey added 20 points for Memphis.

The Grizzlies are a brutal 5-29 on the road this season. They will also visit the Lakers, Portland, Seattle and Golden State on the current swing.

On the injury front for Memphis, guard Damon Stoudamire (sore right knee) is doubtful and guard Mike Miller (patella tendinitis) is questionable for tonight’s contest. Stoudamire is averaging 7.5 points and a team-best 4.8 assists, while Miller has posted 18.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season.

This is the third of four meetings between the clubs this season. Phoenix won the two previous contests and has captured three in a row in the series.

Memphis has lost two straight after winning its last two at Phoenix.

The Suns will visit Memphis on April 3rd at FedExForum.
