Miami ended a two-game losing streak with Monday’s 101-83 win over the New York Knicks at AmericanAirlines Arena. The Heat played without guard Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal versus New York, but Jason Kapono scored 13 of his 22 points during a franchise-record 27-point run in the first quarter to lead the way.
Wade missed the contest with a sprained left ankle, while O’Neal sat out his 34th consecutive game as he recovers from knee surgery. Wade is considered day-to-day, while O’Neal is expected to return any time soon.
Jason Williams added 20 points and seven assists, while Udonis Haslem had 19 points and 10 boards for Miami, which will try to improve its 9-12 road record this season. Gary Payton tallied 10 points, a season-high 13 assists and six boards in the winning cause.
The Heat will also visit New York and Chicago on its road swing.
Indiana, meanwhile, will continue a four-game homestand on Wednesday. The Pacers are 1-1 on the homestand and ended a four-game slide with Monday’s 98-91 victory over the Bulls.
Jermaine O’Neal had 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Danny Granger contributed 19 points and Darrell Armstrong 16 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists for the Pacers, who are 11-7 at Conseco Fieldhouse this season. They will wrap up the stand versus Toronto on Saturday.
Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley (back) is questionable for Wednesday’s game.
Wednesday’s game between Indiana and Miami is the second of four meetings this season. The Heat posted a 104-101 win over Indiana in South Beach on January 18 this season, but the Pacers have won 14 of 17 and 15 of the last 21 meetings.
Miami has lost eight straight and nine of its last 10 at Indiana.
