(Basketball News) - Cuttino Mobley posted 30 points and Yao Ming finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, as the Jeff Van Gundy-led Houston Rockets downed Stan Van Gundy’s Miami Heat, 90-70, on Tuesday at the Toyota Center.
Rockets guard Steve Francis chipped in 14 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in the contest, which marked the first meeting between the Van Gundy brothers as NBA head coaches. Jeff is in his first season behind the Rockets bench, while Stan became the general of the Heat after Pat Riley’s surprise resignation prior to the start of the season.
Scott Padgett hit 3-of-4 attempts from three-point range and ended with 13 points off the bench for Houston, which was won four straight to improve to 5-1 on the young season.
Houston shot 41.7 percent from three-point range and also hit 18 of its 20 foul shots.
The Rockets are off until Thursday when they travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks.
