Van Exel underwent surgery on the same knee in the beginning of the season and has missed some time with his new team. Van Exel was acquired from Dallas as part of a nine-player deal in the offseason.
The former Cincinnati standout is averaging 13.4 points and 5.9 assist per game.
Meanwhile, the Warriors activated center Adonal Foyle from the injured list. Foyle was shelved on December 16 and has missed 34 games this season. He had surgery on his left knee November 6.
After sitting out training camp and the preseason, Foyle played in one game before experiencing stiffness in the knee. The 28-year-old Foyle played in all 82 games last season for the Warriors and averaged 5.4 points, six rebounds and 2.5 blocks per contest.
Golden State is already with out forward Troy Murphy, who will miss 4-to-6 weeks with a deep bone bruise and stress reaction in his right ankle.
