Insider Claims LeBron James Would Consider Euroleague for ’around $50 million a year’

  By C.Y. Ellis
08.5.2008 - Updated on 08.5.2008

So now we have a number. A source close to LeBron James was today quoted as saying that the All-Star and Olympian would consider plying his trade in the Euroleague for the arbitrary-sounding sum of $50 million. This same insider also let loose that CSKA Moscow and Olympiakos - both backed by billionaire owners - have been in touch with King James, although no formal negotiations are said to have taken place.

So, how much of a concern is it to the NBA that there is, in theory, a deal which could send LeBron abroad for a year or two?

"I don’t want to say it’s much ado about nothing, but we think it’s overblown a bit. It’s not something we’re losing sleep over. " -
Joel Litvin, President of NBA League and Basketball Operations

Oh no? I think now is exactly the right time to start being concerned. While the NBA is yet to lose a genuine superstar, we now know that perhaps the biggest name in the game has a price. With money evidently being a secondary concern for the big ballers who bankroll the larger Euroleague operations, you can rest assured that there’s at least one club willing to front that fifty million.

"For the most part, the league considers the players to be fungible products. But LeBron is one of the three or four players the league would definitely hate to lose. If a team lost him or Kobe to Europe, it would lose its mind. It would be devastating."
- NBPA official

At this point, we have to ask "What if?" How much would this shake up the league’s modus operandi if they lost LeBron, Kobe or one of the other players previously considered untouchable? Do you think we’re in line to see some changes to the league’s salary cap restrictions? Let us know what you think in the comment box below.

Anonymous sources guys, let’s not get caught up in the media circus. You know how the media loves to fabricate stories when there is not much to talk about. Seriously? Where are the official comments fom the Olympiakos? Or anyone else? Mid Level NBA players heading to Euroleague is nothing new, been happening for years. Plus they only play a max of 35 games in a complete season, hardly worth recognizing. .

If LeBron goes to play in Europe he would be dumb rich. He Should consider it plus he might win more titles there. It is going to be hard for him to win a title in the NBA with no help. .

I guess you must be as sure as the Atlanta owners were about a couple of weeks ago, right? An Olympiacos fanP.S. Do not ever underestimate two of the most powerful forces on earth: Money and fame. And guys, unfortunately for you, Europe can nowadays provide both of them to superstars like LeBron, in numbers that the NBA already can’t reach and in a decade won’t even imagine.Think. You are an American superstar. NBA loves you. Americans love you. In Europe? Nothing less than a God.Oh! Don’t forget to add about 10-15 billionaire (as in Euros) owners with absolutely no budget limitations.Cheers from Greece .

NBA should provide bigger salary cap for keeping their best players on board or they will consider changing their present clubs with ones in the europe which are able to offer them better contract.Let’s face it, europe is getting closer to NBA and nobody can’t stop that. .
