Jazz pound reeling T-Wolves

Minneapolis, MN (Basketball News) - Deron Williams notched 21 points and eight assists, as the Utah Jazz pounded the Minnesota Timberwolves, 109-83, at the Target Center.

Gordan Giricek scored a season-high 20 points for the Northwest Division- leading Jazz, who have won three of their last four and 10 of their last 12. Matt Harpring netted 19 points, and Andrei Kirilenko, Mehmet Okur and Paul Millsap each added 10 points in the rout.

The Jazz played the second tilt of a three-game road trip, and will conclude the trek on Sunday against the Hornets. Utah is 17-12 on the road this season.

"It was a good win," Harpring said. "We had a tough travel day. We thought that we might have a little let-down, but we didn’t. We came out and played hard."

Kevin Garnett scored 22 points for Minnesota, which, coming off the worst shooting performance in franchise history, lost its fifth game in the last six to wrap a five-game homestand. Ricky Davis scored 16 points and Craig Smith 11 for the Wolves, who shot a horrid 29.6 percent from the floor on Tuesday in a 91-65 setback to Dallas. Minnesota is 17-13 at home this season.

"No one is getting any younger here," Garnett said. "Time’s flying. Should have, could have, would have. I understand the importance of the game."

Both clubs went back and forth through the first 12 minutes and Okur’s free throw in the final seconds put Utah ahead 22-19 heading into the second.

The Jazz blew the game wide open in the second, starting the stanza on a 16-2 run ended by a Harpring layup at the eight-minute mark. The burst put them ahead 38-21, and Utah led 57-39 at halftime.

Utah added to its lead down the third-quarter stretch on an 11-1 run capped by a pair of Kirilenko free throws with 2:55 left for a 78-54 advantage. Minnesota scored the next eight points, but Millsap’s layup with four ticks left gave Utah an 80-62 margin heading into the fourth.

Utah then left the Wolves in its dust on another 16-2 run, sparked by Derek Fisher’s trey with 9:09 remaining, as the Jazz cruised to the easy win.

Game Notes

Minnesota shot 31-for-72 (43 percent) from the floor...The Jazz waived forward Alan Henderson prior to the game, eight days after acquiring him in a trade with Philadelphia...The Jazz have won three of seven and four of their last nine at Minnesota.
