The Timberwolves picked up an 89-76 win over the Denver Nuggets at the Target Center on Tuesday evening.
Garnett poured in 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, handed out eight assists and blocked four shots in Minnesota’s sixth straight win over the Nuggets.
Gary Trent added 14 points off the bench for the Timberwolves, who have won two of their last three games. Fred Hoiberg contributed 12 points and nine rebounds in the win over Denver.
Minnesota is 3-2 on the road this season.
Cleveland, which has won four in a row at home, continued to struggle away from home on Wednesday. The Cavaliers had their brief two-game winning streak halted with a 106-95 loss to the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center.
James delivered a career-high 28 points and also added eight assists and seven rebounds for the Cavaliers, who were looking for their first three-game winning streak of the season.
Cleveland lost for the 28th straight time on the road. Chris Mihm and Ricky Davis both posted 13 points in the loss to Washington.
Kevin Ollie and Darius Miles both registered 12 points for Cleveland, which last won on the road January 12, 2003 at Seattle.
Cleveland forward Carlos Boozer, who did not play against Washington, is questionable for tonight’s game with an ankle injury. Boozer rolled his right ankle in the first quarter of a 103-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers Tuesday night and did not return.
Last year’s second-round pick out of Duke, Boozer is averaging 12.1 points and a team-leading 10.5 rebounds per game after compiling 10 points and 7.5 boards a game in his rookie campaign.
The Cavs are 4-1 as the host.
In 2002-03, Minnesota won both contests between the two clubs. The Timberwolves took home a 102-91 victory at Gund Arena on February 12, 2003, and defeated the Cavs in a blowout, 118-95, at the Target Center 16 days later.
Overall, Minnesota has won six of the last eight meetings between the two teams. Cleveland leads the all-time series, 17-9.
